A Bar In Paris (1994; reconstructed 2002)

This picture was made from simply joining two photographs together down the centre, and as such it does seem to be a precursor to the series of photographic works beginning with After Vermeer. I'd put it together at college from some photographs I'd taken in a bar off the Boulevard de Magenta, near Place de la République, using Photoshop 2.0, but I didn't pursue any more work in this vein for years, and had written over the file on some old 3.5" disk a long time ago. Coming across the original photographs recently, I thought it would be a simple matter to remake this picture, the consequence of which was that I was inspired to use some other photographs taken in the same bar to create Scene in a Bar in Paris in the Early 1990s
