Scene in a Bar in Paris in the Early 1990s Progress proof (2002)

I thought I might post this on my site to give a certain insight into the amount of work which has gone into Scene in a Bar in Paris in the Early 1990s. It shows the pictures that went into its making at the point where I had done little more than place the elements where they might go in order to visualise how the composition might work, and having printed this out, I then annoted it as I considered how the work might progress. I ended up reversing the composition, simply as it reads better, as we naturally follow the gaze of the closest figure, from left to right, to the person off the edge of the picture, outside the frame.
